10 Cool Facts you probably didn't know about Sarah J Maas
Sure, most readers have heard about the phenomenal author
Sarah J Maas and her incredible works that left readers (including me!) either
deliriously satisfied or totally messed up--Talk about Throne of Glass which she
derived the twists on Cinderella and ACOTAR (A court of Thorns and Roses)
series on Beauty and the Beast.
Her intricately outlined worlds, profound and pensive
illustration of hot male characters and undoubtedly unique names that are so
hard to pronounce set her apart among all authors.
I have read articles and watched several interviews on Maas.
Well, after a couple of interviews and articles, I have jotted down 10 cool and
silly facts that I discovered about Sarah J Maas, that I think her fans might
not heard about.
So, are you a fan? Then, you should know
these.
1. Maas' unusual writing habits involve listening to music
of Kanye West. According to her interview from Bucks County Courier Times,
listening to Kanye West's songs helps her to get into Celaena's head (the
protagonist of Throne of Glass). Now, I wonder what song is it?
2. She's a feminist and a believer on every woman’s
capability which is why all of her female protagonists depict personality of
great power and strong-will.
3. Maas is extremely dedicated and passionate author. Can
you imagine unconsciously shutting yourself out for 5 hours straight due to
immense and in-depth writing? Take note: No showers at all.
4. Maas wrote the first book on the ACOTAR series back in
2009 before she even got a book deal. *shookt*
5. On normal days (off), Maas simply sit on the couch,
binge-watch television (with the same purpose---enhance her creative writing
juices) and guess what? While her mind still process various story line ideas.
6. Maas is a huge fan
of Jamie Fraser from Outlander. (Heard
both about the book and series but I haven't got the chance to watch even read
it. Seems like a great historical fiction book! )
7. One of Sarah J Maas' super talent is ..."lip reading".
8. Maas got the idea of Throne of Glass series when she was
15.
9. Maas' fans adored her that they end up naming their
babies after her characters.
10. Using two different point of views in different novels
that are both currently on-progress is an absolute trouble. Even great authors
are no exception. Maas unknowingly used the same character name in Throne of Glass
and ACOTAR. What is it? Cresseida. It doesn't matter.
Maas said, "Let's
just pretend it's a common name in both words. I'm the writer, I can make stuff
up."
Bonus/es:
Sarah's choice among all her characters? It's Rhysand, High Lord of Night Court from
ACOTAR's series. (Same here Sarah! Same
here...)
The ACOTAR series was
inspired not only in the famous Disney classic, Beauty and the Beast but also
with the Norwegian folklore, East of the
Sun, West of the Moon and Tam Lin,
a legendary ballad from Norfolk.
